Goddess Saraswati is universally recognized in Hinduism as the Goddess of learning and knowledge. Saraswati is the companion of Lord Brahma (the creator) and represents speech (Vach), the divine energy with which Brahma created the universe. Legend has it that Saraswati appeared as Gayatri to assist Brahma in an important yagna dedicated to the Sun God.

An invocation to Goddess Saraswati is one who holds the veena in her hands and opens the channels of learning for her disciples. Saraswati is also revered as the Goddess of music and creative arts, especially spoken arts.

Salutations to the supreme Goddess Saraswati, whose face is fair as a jasmine flower, radiant like the moon and delicate as a snowflake. Adorned in brilliant white garments, she holds the musical instrument vINA to bestow boons upon her disciples while seated on her white lotus throne.
